Montefiore Einstein Cardiology Division Secures Industry Grants for Cardiovascular Advancements Pioneering the Development of Clinical Applications for Spectral CT
Montefiore Einstein Cardiology division is poised for significant advancements thanks to new grants from industry leaders Philips and Amgen. Drs. Mario Garcia and Leandro Slipczuk have been awarded a 3-year grant from Philips to pioneer the development of clinical applications for spectral CT in cardiovascular imaging. This cutting-edge technology allows for the material decomposition of x-rays, enabling the differentiation and quantification of materials within cardiovascular images.
The second grant, generously provided by Amgen, will fund a study on the early identification of patients with uncontrolled cholesterol during revascularization procedures. The study, led by Dr. Leandro Slipczuk, will investigate the implementation of guideline-directed initiation of PCSK9 inhibitors to achieve cholesterol level goals in these patients. The research will involve a comparative analysis of patients identified during the index revascularization procedure with propensity-matched controls, offering valuable insights into cholesterol management within the cardiovascular context.
