NY Center for Rare Diseases at Montefiore Einstein Selected to Join Prestigious National Network for Rare Disorders

Enhancing Collaborative Efforts in Research and Treatment through NORD's Nationwide Initiative.

The Children's Hospital at Montefiore Einstein, which houses the New York Center for Rare Diseases, has been selected to join a national network led by the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD). This prestigious network comprises 40 academic medical centers and focuses on rare diseases, defined as conditions affecting fewer than 200,000 individuals. CHAM's selection underscores its excellence in managing complex, rare conditions and its advanced work in precision medicine.

Under the leadership of Dr. John M. Greally and Dr. Melissa P. Wasserstein, CHAM has made significant strides in rare disease research, particularly in genetic diseases and intellectual and developmental disorders. The collaboration with NORD allows CHAM to strengthen connections with specialists across the country and accelerate progress in the treatment and research of rare diseases, a field where over 7,000 conditions are known but 95% lack effective treatments.
