HIGHLIGHTS

Minimally invasive approaches to spine oncology

Many traditional approaches for metastatic spine disease involve very large operations that delay the start of the definitive treatment over wound-healing concerns. We have been focusing on minimally invasive (MIS) approaches to tumor surgery that would allow less tissue damage and quicker healing times.

While not every oncology patient is suitable for the MIS approach, we believe further research and technique refinement will allow us to expedite treatments in cases that require a surgical intervention for the spine metastasis. We have published extensively on this technique and currently have numerous research projects to study the tumor characteristics and approaches in order to advance it further. In addition, our weekly tumor board meetings involve detailed discussions between oncology, radiology, neurosurgery and radiation oncology departments
