Implementing a New Unified Anesthesia Care Model at Wakefield Hospital
The Montefiore Einstein Department of Anesthesiology has created and implemented a new Unified Anesthesia Care Model at Wakefield Hospital under the direction of Anesthesia Site Director Dr. Roman Margulis and Quality Improvement Director Dr. Alexandra Bastien. The new model has led to a more efficient and equitable staffing system that leverages anesthesiologists with a broad spectrum of skills across the Wakefield Hospital anesthesia service.
The Unified Anesthesia Care Model ensures that not only are operating rooms efficiently staffed, but that there is effective anesthesia staffing for both the Endoscopy Suite and the Obstetric Unit so that we can better serve patients both in and out of the operating room. Since being implemented in July 2023, there has been an increase in staffing utilization from 15 percent to more than 75 percent, demonstrating the importance of collaborative care across sub-specialties.
