2023 Highlights

Montefiore Einstein Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences

With a focus on patient-centered care, innovation and research, Montefiore Einstein Ophthalmology & Visual Science is dedicated to helping patients maintain and improve their vision.

The year 2023 brought forth the very best of Ophthalmology. As we continue to transition back to a sense of normalcy after the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, we remain humbled by the incredible dedication and sacrifice of our trainees on the frontlines, and of our faculty who rapidly evolved to maintain the highest level of training and patient care under incredibly challenging circumstances.

Montefiore Einstein Ophthalmology & Visual Science remains committed to providing the most advanced eye care, and continues to distinguish itself both regionally and nationally as a leader in comprehensive, state-of-the-art vision services. We have received national recognition for our highly innovative work as leaders in medical and surgical training, and continue to work at the cutting edge of both basic science and clinical research. The year 2023 was further highlighted by a visit from the most senior leadership from Rangsit University in Thailand, laying the foundation for further potential international collaborative teaching and research opportunities.

Innovations and leadership in medical education have recently brought enormous attention to the Department. With award winning educators, facilities, and cutting-edge research which employs a "bench to bedside" approach, the Department continues to attract top residency candidates and help bring major therapeutic advancements to the field. Expansions in faculty and facilities continue to meet the demands of our training programs and the Bronx community alike.

Advancing care through clinical trials

A joint Montefiore Einstein Office of Clinical Trials (OCT) is being re-engineered to formalize an infrastructure that will provide local, national and global leadership in clinical trials and evidence-based health care. Montefiore Einstein Ophthalmology is taking a leadership role in this effort. Our OCT will be a locally and nationally recognized leader in showing that trials can efficiently be conducted at an academic medical center. This program is designed to guide, inspire and implement sponsored human trials, industry sponsored and National Institutes of Health sponsored as well as investigator-initiated pilot programs based upon scholarship and intellectual engagement of the Montefiore Einstein community.
