Inspiring Mural Celebrating the Bronx Unveiled at Montefiore Einstein Otorhinolaryngology –Head and Neck Surgery Offices at the Hutchinson Campus
Montefiore Einstein has recently unveiled a vibrant new digital collage mural, Celebrating the Bronx, creating a welcoming space in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at its Hutchinson Campus location. A collaboration between Studio in a School NYC and the Fine Art Program at Montefiore Einstein, the inspiring Bronx-themed mural features artwork created by fifth-grade students from P.S. 72X in the Bronx.
Guided by Studio in a School’s Artist Instructor, James Reynolds, the P.S. 72X students reflected on what makes life in the Bronx special and the many reasons to be proud of being a part of the community. Learning to construct images shape-by-shape, the students crafted collages of architectural landmarks such as Yankee Stadium, city buildings, flora and fauna from local green spaces, and exotic plants and animals from the New York Botanical Garden and Bronx Zoo. Using scans of each student’s artwork, Bronx-based graphic designer Jose Rivera designed and created a singular, cohesive, wall-sized digital collage highlighting the joy, vibrancy and cultural richness of the borough. The collective portrait captures the beauty of everyday life while celebrating the Bronx.
“This mural celebrates the Bronx and our partnership with our community members, emphasizing the positive impact the arts have on uplifting our spirits and elevating our spaces,” said Richard V. Smith, MD, FACS, Professor and Chair of Montefiore Einstein Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. “Studio in a School NYC and the students from P.S. 72X have done a fantastic job capturing the spirit of our borough.”
This initiative is part of the Montefiore Einstein Fine Art Program, an innovative visual arts program that integrates art into the daily life at Montefiore Einstein, fostering a restorative and supportive environment for patients, families, caregivers, students, faculty and staff. This new installation exemplifies our dedication to healing, teaching, discovering and advancing the health of the communities we serve.
