2020 Highlights

Montefiore-Einstein Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery

Over the course of an unprecedented year, Montefiore-Einstein Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery placed itself in a trajectory of growth while also rising to the challenges of COVID-19 in novel, groundbreaking ways. The significant innovations in treatment and research our department made in 2020 led to improvements in care within our healthcare system and beyond.

Note from the chair

This year has challenged us all, both professionally and personally. But it has also been one of the most rewarding of my career, seeing the selflessness and commitment of each member of our department, from the resident physicians to the staff and faculty, bar none. Each has volunteered to place themselves in harm's way to take care of our patients and those within Montefiore-Einstein. We have all harnessed the fortitude to embrace change and the unknown, and we have all emerged as improved versions of ourselves. We have been able to safely improve our patient access, develop new programs and recruit more faculty, all while continuing our dedication to patient care, scientific advancement and education. It is truly a privilege to lead this department.

Richard V. Smith, MD
Interim Chair
