Note from the Chair

Our entire Department contributed to our successes this year in clinical practice, education and research. With depth and expertise in all areas of otorhinolaryngology–head and neck surgery, we continue to deliver state-of-the-art care to our patients, working with our outside partners to bring this care to the Hudson Valley and beyond.

Our Department continues to move forward in all areas: clinical practice, education and research. You will see our accomplishments in all these areas throughout the update.

While our patient care continues to grow in volume and depth, I want to highlight our research advancements this year. Under the stewardship of Dr. Thomas Ow, Director of Clinical and Translational Research, we have taken a quantum leap in our departmental investigations. We have increased our national presence at major meetings, with podium presentations at the 2022 American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery, and Foundation (AAO-HNS/F) annual meeting, which included 20 presentations and panels/mini-seminars from six of our faculty; Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meetings (COSM); Society for Ear Nose and Throat Advancement in Children (SENTAC);  American Association for Cancer Research (AACR); American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and many other invited lectures.

This year, we were once again recognized for our simulation expertise, boot camps and in-situ training to improve patient outcomes, and we have received new grants in translational research and quality research. These efforts, along with our clinical trial participation, are key to advancing the health of our patients across the spectrum of disease.

Our entire Department contributed to our success this year. With depth and expertise in all areas of otorhinolaryngology–head and neck surgery, we continue to deliver state-of-the-art care to our patients, working with our outside partners to bring this care to the Hudson Valley and beyond.

As always, it is part of our mission to bring leading-edge care to patients with the greatest need and to others who have traditionally been excluded from clinical trials, be it locally, regionally or further afield. We look forward to continued growth in 2023, with expansion into additional locations and the addition of more clinical trials across the Department.
