Global Experts Set Consensus on Pediatric Tracheostomy Care Standards

Montefiore Einstein implements the International consensus recommendations that have been established for the Pediatric Tracheostomy Emergency Readiness Assessment Tool. They underscore the need for high-reliability systems and high-performance teams in order to deliver top-notch tracheostomy care, both routinely and in emergencies. These guidelines emphasize the critical role of preparedness and teamwork in ensuring patient safety and outcomes.

Dr. Yang utilized a modified Delphi consensus method to survey global experts in pediatric airway management and simulation to identify key items for inclusion in a pediatric tracheostomy emergency readiness (PedsTrachReady) tool which incorporates tracheostomy-specific, team, and systems components. Her team is now in the process of developing construct validity evidence for this tool through multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary in situ simulation of tracheostomy emergencies.
