A little over a year ago, the world changed and will never be the same. We and the communities we serve have been engulfed by grief and filled with pride. We have witnessed the impact of racism and health disparities and yet felt the ground shift subtly toward greater justice.

Montefiore-Einstein Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences sees highest volume of telehealth visits

In response to COVID-19, Montefiore-Einstein rapidly expanded its telehealth capacity. Our department became its most robust adopter, and recorded the highest volume of telehealth visits within the health system. Virtual appointments allowed us to keep in touch with some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) Emergency Department undergoes extensive renovations

Last year, extensive renovations of the Emergency Department at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) resulted in a distinct, state-of-the-art space for the emergency evaluation and care of children and adolescents with acute, primary psychiatric conditions.

Bruce Schwartz, MD, to serve as Immediate Past President of American Psychiatric Association

After a distinguished year as President of the American Psychiatric Association (2019-2020), Bruce Schwartz, MD, will now serve as Immediate Past President of the American Psychiatric Association (2020‐2023), where he will advance national advocacy for issues relevant to the patients and communities we serve.

Research Review

Improving care and outcomes through research

In 2020, our department made robust contributions in research spanning a variety of topics. Members of our team published on the advancement of knowledge into COVID-19, addressing race and racism, understanding health disparities, psychiatric conditions across the lifespan and translational insights about psychiatric disorders, among others.
